Dear Cousin Purdy,
Thank you for your email, you gave us some useful tips for dealing with our new pets! It's me Niobe writing this, since Jack is always either sleeping, playing, or attacking me and doesn't want to take a break to reply to you. I'm the one that's more thoughtful of course--for instance I always make sure to say "PLEEEEEEEASE" really loudly while my pets are getting my wet food ready for me.
We've been settling in nicely though, and have been delighted to find the house filled wall-to-wall with what you called "rugs". We've found so far that we like using the corner of the bed for claw sharpening though. Our pets seem to like it to, and they keep cheering us on with this word "NO!" which we think means something like "Keep it up, you're doing a great job!" Although, one time, the girl-pet squirted Jack with water--maybe because he's always fascinated with running water she thought he would like it?
We didn't find it amusing when our girl-pet trimmed our claws the other day. I fought back enough so she couldn't finish with mine! Jack was a bit of a pussy though and she managed to finish clipping all of his front claws.
The pets finallly realized that we deserve the best and most comfortable throw blanket in the house for our own sleeping purposes. They have finally started to move it from the couch to the bed every night.
We've given up on trying to sleep by their faces or stomach--we've been rolled over onto and elbowed in the head too many times now. Now we just sleep by their feet. Although we feel sorry for the girl-pet and think she misses us so close, so early every morning we go under the duvet to sleep by her belly so she won't think we've abandoned her. We even like to get into fights with claws and everything right next to her belly so she knows we're there! She uses that word "no" a lot then too, so we keep doing it. She uses some other ones which sound like "Shucking Bats" but we're not sure what they mean.
The girl-pet seems to sleep a lot during the day, although she's doing less of it now that we've been sleeping at the end of our bed by her feet at night. She doesn't seem as tired during the day now.
We've discovered these things called plants which we love to play with. Both the girl-pet and the boy-pet keep cheering us on with that word "no" to keep playing with them, so I don't understand why one-by-one they are disappearing to places we can't reach or rooms we are not allowed into!
Jack's been plotting to get outside lately, but has only managed to get about 8-inches out the door so far. They've been watching him quite closely since then. I would like to go outside too, so I keep climbing up the screen door. We keep hearing about these things called "coyotes" out there, so we're curious to see one for ourselves.
I hear on November 13th we're going on a special excursion to be "fixed"! That must be fun, right? Have you been "fixed"? Did you like it? The girl-pet has been letting us sleep in our smaller bed that she sometimes puts in the car. She says it's in preparation for this excursion. We like sleeping in that bed during the day but I don't like when she puts it in the car so I tell her so the whole time we're in the car. Jack just sits there or sleeps while in the car.
Hugs and Kittens,
Niobe and Jack
P.S. You're right about how funny they look without clothes!
